"In poetry I experience not only my ideas but my situatedness in the world or my situatedness within a particular instance of place and time. I was in this cafe. I did experience the things that I write about. That's a powerful thing, to be able to do that. So, the idea that language isn't just about communication but that it's learning about who we are and our relationship to the world and to others and that's something that doesn't get talked about in school."
