PAINT, PUNCH AND PAUSE
When performing a poem, you typically use three tools (O'Connor 2004):
- Paint ... performs a word to illustrate its meaning: for example, if the word 'slow' is in the poem, you might read it 's--l--o--w'.
- Punch ... emphasizes a word.
- Pause ... pauses between words.
Listen to the readings of the poem. Can you hear the way the readers Paint, Punch and Pause?
