Welcome to the MacDonald Lab
Our research uses small scale strategies to solve large scale sustainable energy and global health challenges. At their core, many sustainable energy and global health technologies are thermofluid systems governed by the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. We investigate and design systems by applying our knowledge of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to create mathematical models and through hands-on experimental exploration. In the MacDonald Lab we often take our inspiration from nature to develop innovative and highly efficient sustainable energy and global health systems. Some examples of our current research topics are paper-based microfluidic tests, evaporative cooling systems, and external heat engines. More detailed information can be found throughout the website.
